2021: Flowing into a New Identity

Updated: Apr 17, 2022

If you're reading this, you've made it to the end of the year! Happy December and Happy First Day of Winter! If you're anything like me, you're probably thinking about the holidays, buying last minutes gifts, reflecting, resting, or getting a head start on your 2022 goals. Whatever you're doing during these last few days of 2021, I hope you squeeze in some time to celebrate yourself for making it this far. Be proud of wherever you are. Small wins are still wins, and slow progress is still progress.

In a previous post, I wrote about embracing changes and letting go of what no longer serves us. For me, 2021 was about flowing into a new identity. I chose the word "flowing" because it implies that it's happening with ease. Throughout my blog, I've discussed the importance of slowing down and surrendering control. I've been practicing these concepts a lot lately, and it's been paying off. I haven't been overworking or overwhelming myself. I've been taking my time, resting, and trusting myself and my path.

In numerology, the year 2021 is a 5 year. The number 5 symbolizes change. Embracing change and flowing not forcing. 2021 was a great year for me. I stayed healthy, prioritized my well-being, traveled, spent time with loved ones, grew as a young professional, launched my blog, started my business, picked up new hobbies, maintained healthy routines, and much more. 2020 was all about going within, reflecting, being present, focusing on health, community, figuring out our lives and how we want to progress. 2020 was a shift and 2021 was about handling that shift. 2021 was about embracing the new identity. It was about taking action, taking risks, putting ourselves out there, exploring ourselves and our paths. It was about learning how to navigate in this "new world". Following your heart and doing what's best for you.

Today's officially the first day of winter, which is my least favorite season. Instead of claiming the "winter blues", I've made the conscious decision and effort to uplift my spirit during this time. I start my day with a morning routine, listen to music, watch my favorite shows, cook my favorite meals, journal, read books, meditate, do yoga, call friends and family, etc. I've been staying present, trying new things, celebrating myself, having fun and restoring peace. My daily practices uplift my moods and change my perspective. I can change whatever state of being I'm in if I just try something new. Since I live alone, it's very important for me to continue holding myself accountable and making sure I'm doing my best to stay uplifted. I've been living alone for over a year now, and I love it. I'm enjoying life, enjoying the process, going after what I want, and leaving behind what I don't want.

Since we're still in a pandemic, prioritizing health, wellness and peace are extremely important. In the midst of chaos, you can still choose peace. Our inner world doesn't have to reflect what's going on around us. Being gentle and extending grace to ourselves and others is necessary. In stressful times, we can only control ourselves, our thoughts, actions and reactions. We must not let stress and worry consume us. Prioritizing joy and rest are necessary. It's imperative to not overwork ourselves because this leads to stress and burnout. Our self- worth is not determined by our productivity and our jobs. This is a Western concept and I'm glad so many people are removing it from their lives. It's okay to just be. Relax, have fun and enjoy life.

I started this blog earlier this year, and I'm so grateful for this new journey. Writing brings me joy, and I'm glad I'm in the space where I can share my thoughts with you all. This is my last post of the year and I'm so fulfilled. Thank you to everyone who has read at least one of my posts, subscribed, given feedback, or shared my writing. Thank you for being on this journey with me!

Before the year ends, I hope 2021 was a better year for you than 2020 was. If not, you still have a few days to do something that brings you ultimate joy! I hope 2022 and the years to come are filled with prosperity, love, peace, joy and growth. I hope you stay healthy and happy. It's only up from here! Happy (early) New Year!
